While working on the “Fisher King” I was remembering as a kid watching the kingfishers at a pond near my home. They would patiently wait on an overhanging branch for just the right moment, then, fearlessly launch themselves into the water. Emerging a few seconds later with a fish or an unlucky frog. And if you disturbed them in any way they would let you know with their loud clacking calls, in no uncertain terms, this was their fishing hole. They were always far superior to me as fishermen as demonstrated by the fly twisted around the branch. Actually, between you and me this piece should be called the Fisher Queen since only the female belted kingfisher has the red belt. But, I like the play on words so I claim artistic license.
