The Great Blue Heron is one of the most common, uncommon birds that many people are familiar with. It is also one conservation’s success stories and is living proof of the value of enforcing bird protection laws. This beautiful bird can be found in wetlands and waterways in all of the continental United States, Canada, and much of Mexico.
With this sculpture I am showing this graceful bird slowly, patiently, zen-like strolling among the cattails of a marsh flat in that moment just before the lightning like strike that hopefully, (at least for the bird) results in a satisfying meal.
This piece is my hope that we will always be able to witness this beautiful bird gracing our wetlands and airways near our homes and “out there” in the wild.
